The N-Word of the Narcissus

0_21_nword_350.jpg

Next Huckleberry Finn and His Rollicking Sidekick N-Word Jim. If this sort of thing keeps up, we'll have to invent a euphemism for "N-Word."

"WordBridge Publishing has performed a public service in putting Joseph Conrad's neglected classic into a form accessible to modern readers. This new version addresses the reason for its neglect: the profusion of the so-called n-word throughout its pages. Hence, the introduction of "n-word" throughout the text, to remove this offence to modern sensibilities. The N-word of the Narcissus tells the tale of a fateful voyage of a British sailing ship, and on that voyage the ability of a lone black man to take the crew hostage. The ability of this man to manipulate an entire ship's crew can no longer be seen as a mere exercise in storytelling. Conrad in fact appears to have been the first to highlight the phenomenon of manipulation based in white guilt." -- Amazon.com: The N-word of the Narcissus (9789076660110): Joseph Conrad, Ruben Alvarado: Books

O, dear Lord. I didn't think it was possible to sink any lower than we have, but our betters are hell-bent on sinking us lower....while whipping us and telling us to row ever so harder.

Not to mention The Shadow Line - dog whistle if ever there was.

Now, out here in Asia, a trip to the supermarket toothpaste aisle finds us in the presence of 'DarLie' - complete with top-hatted grinning n-word minstrel.

The whole point of using N-Word in the title and throughout the text is intentional, as a way of highlighting the politically correct madness that has engulfed our culture on every level. Using the euphemism itself simply points out this fact: No matter how sensitive you try to be, you will always be offensive.
Go read Wood Bridge's site, and you'll get the picture: http://www.wordbridge.net/
They aren't trying to be PC so much as they are trying to show the folly of taking it to its logical conclusion.

Theodore Dalrymple: Political correctness is communist propaganda writ small. In my study of communist societies, I came to the conclusion that the purpose of communist propaganda was not to persuade or convince, nor to inform, but to humiliate; and therefore, the less it corresponded to reality the better. When people are forced to remain silent when they are being told the most obvious lies, or even worse when they are forced to repeat the lies themselves, they lose once and for all their sense of probity. To assent to obvious lies is to co-operate with evil, and in some small way to become evil oneself. One’s standing to resist anything is thus eroded, and even destroyed. A society of emasculated liars is easy to control. I think if you examine political correctness, it has the same effect and is intended to.

Even Lee wrote often
That slavery is sin
But those self-righteous bluecoats
Were stoning his countrymen

Lee also said
And made freedom a bet
That the slaves in the South
Weren’t ready yet

They immortalized Lincoln
And demonized Lee
And the North did pure evil
“Dying to make men free”

Sure truth that Black people
Were stolen from their homes
Now servants of servants
They’re enslaved by their own

‘Tis pathetic they don’t know
Who their snakes really be
It’s their Jacksons and Sharptons
And Mohammed’s Ali

All Blacks should thank God
They were traded in their land
And weren’t left to suffer
By their Black owners’ hands

So ride your black guilt
To the time of the end
Still truth that the North
Had the much greater sin

It appears the stupidity limit has been exceeded.
I'm still thinking about obscenity.

I take Jewel's point, but it's an unfortunate fact that irony, satire and parody are lost on a large portion of the population. Whatever the intentions with this one, too many people are going to take it as an affirmation of a ghastly trend.

The ghastly trend is that political correctness leads to violence, thievery and war. This is exactly what happened when the North illegally stormed the South with their impatient and politically correct idea of ending slavery. ONLY 600,000 DIED.

I don't care if "irony, satire and parody are lost on a large portion of the population". But I do know that the leaders of black people have learned their own self-righteousness well from the Yankees.
