White People Liking and Not Liking Stuff White People Like

divorce.jpg

The rabidly PC chicks over at Feministe (AKA IToldYouThatBitchWasCrazy.com) have decided to ask their readers about my favorite blog Stuff White People Like. "Brilliant and self-conscious or racist and simplistic?" The comments come fast and furious. Some are more unself-conscious and simplistic than others. Here's the best, plucked out by Half Sigma

I'm sorry, but I thought we were supposed to be fighting against stereotypes? I'm a vegan, I recycle, compost, read books from the library, drink organic tea, ride a bike, etc, etc, and I am not upper class and it has nothing to do with my being white. There's this thing called individuality.
Ah, individuality. It's what's for dinner at Feministe. Or would be if they could cook. Ah well, it's enough that the item is filed at Feministe in Archive for Assholes, Crime, GLBTQ, Queerness, Trans . A place for everything and....

Meanwhile, Stuff White People Like is covering Gentrification , Study Abroad , Being the only white person around , and Difficult Breakups.

When I read the sentence that says "there's this stuff called individuality" I sprayed tea out my nose all over my keyboard. :-(

Remember the old Steve Martin routine, the "Nonconformist's Oath" where he'd get the audience to say"I promise to be different! I promise to be unique! I promise not to repeat things other people say!"

hehe.
