My Newest & Most Favoritist Blog is An Exercise in Futility

The resident curmudgeon @ An Exercise in Futility -- Why do I even bother? (a man after my own dark heart) describes himself as,

"an echo-boomer who specializes in deconstructing cultural lies that were handed down to all of us by a generation whose grand ideological experiment failed and consequently ruined the world I’m slated to inherit."
I'd describe him as a star-class kvetcher with a burning-down word habit. Here's a sampler:

I've always thought of myself as an aspiring curmudgeon, and now I have a muse!

The hyphenation bit might take care of itself in the long run, if the "man hating bitch feminists" actually paid attention to what they hated and refused to get married.

Big if, though.

I trust we've all heard the old saw? "Any man who isn't a liberal in his twenties has no heart -- any man who's still a liberal in his forties has no head." We've seen far too much evidence that the second part of this statement is true, so along comes young Mr. Evan to provide a proof of the first part. Yes, he's funny as hell, and makes plenty of good points, but the cold meanness that emanates from a lot of his writing is pretty hard to take for an aging sentimentalist like myself. (Case in point: this post, which is equal parts clever insult humor and sheer, mindless cruelty.) Those Evil Feminazis must've really done a job on his head in college to make this guy react by becoming the right-wing equivalent of Mark Morford.

Evan has Roissy's sensible outlook on male/female relationships without the bitter backlash overtones. It's really pleasant to read such common sense, and gives a little hope for the future of marriage and families.

CGHill: the simple refusal of radical feminists to marry is not what will doom - or actually has already doomed - hyphenated last names. First, most women were and continue to be too smart to start down a path that would end when their great-grandchildren had to jettison eight hyphenated last names and reclaim the paternal names they could have had all along. And more importantly, radical feminists didn't and don't have many children. Mrs. HisNames tend to have more children.

Problem solved, if we can keep the kids away from state-sanctioned indoctrination via the public schools. Of course this whole discussion sidesteps the worse problem of children born to women who never were and never will be married; children who are supported by the taxpayers and whose last name should be "IRS." But that is a different rant altogether ...

Y'know, I grew up in California. I live here now. (Not too far from where you were raised, Mr. Vanderleun, given that I also grew up near the Tower Books flagship.) And, quite honestly, I want certain parts of the state government to fall and fall hard, despite the fact that it will have deleterious effects on my life. It doesn't seem to cross the voters' minds that there are PROBLEMS in this state, mostly having to do with the fact that money does not grow on trees (or even in the earth anymore; the gold is gone, folks.)

Every election, there's a monetary proposition or four on the ballot that calls for funding that doesn't exist, and every election it or they get voted in. And some of us are screaming, "The state is BROKE, you idiots!"

I was thinking of writing a blog.... No point now.

Good catch, Gerard. I like this fellow. Nice to see such a jaundiced eye in a younger person. He makes me feel positively Panglossian in my outlook.

Dr. Johnson would approve.

The guy who writes EiF is certainly very good, and his older stuff is even better, such as Traveling LOL, Where's the judgment? and Living with your parents: epic fail.
