I think she hit the nail with the suggestion that the neighbors might have had it in for Gates but I think she may have missed the why. They might not have been White racists at all. They weren't profiling professor Gates and his driver. I'm sure they knew who it was and found it hard to keep their faces straight and the laughs inaudible while they talked to 911. Imagine living next door to a man like that for years? I think I'd find it hard to pass up that golden opportunity for a little payback. But that's just me.

By his own standards, Gates is not really very black. He sits atop the US adademic power structure like a prince; he's pals with Obama to boot, so he's enmeshed gloriously in the American political structure as well. His pure delicious Ambrosia lifestyle must sting Gates mercilessly; to peddle black victimhood ceaselessly and yet not embody the victim. Gates must weep in the night, "O I will never be a true and legendary victim like Rosa Parks." Sniff. O where is a poor priviledged black man, trapped on the peak of a mountain of success in America to get his victimhood ticket punched?

Enter, stage right, a white cop; any will do, doesn't matter that the is well nigh unassailable as far as race goes; he is white and that is all that matters.

Gates: Thank God for the clumsy white cop; I am no longer an affirmative action dweeb; I am one with Rosa Parks! O let me howl howl howl, poor abused me; Now I will go down in history as one of America's cruely abused black victims...

I'm not so sure that I would agree with her finger pointing at the neighbor unless, of course, actually describing the two individuals who were indeed actually entering the house falls into that category.

Did the neighbor call 911 because there were two black men next door? No.

She called the police because there were two men forcing their way into the house next door.

After this episode of making a huge, smelly horse's ass of himself, Mr. Gates might want to consider not leaving his home, and his stuff, unattended because I don't think the neighbor or the police will be as keen to take action the next time someone appears to be breaking in.

I could have a dialogue with that lady! The part about the neighbor, I was thinking she couldn't I. D. the men on the porch, but if she could and it was purposeful, I don't think it was racial. I think it's because he's a dick to his neighbors also.

It this a parody of TV commentators?

Glover seems to go far beyond any evidence. How is she is making sense of anyone's stupidity?

I haven't read anything about the neighbor disliking Gate, or knowing he was black, or that he lived there. What was the lighting? Is it likely the neighbor could recognize Gates under the circumstances.

The national reporting has been shoddy. But I tend to expect that.

For example, did Gates and the person with him really have backpacks? Was the other man black or not. Those facts might help us assess whether the neighbor somehow targeted Gates.

Did Gates say how long he spent opening that door, or whether they made a lot of noise while doing it?

Had the other man left before the police arrived? There has been no mention of where he was while the police were speaking with Gates.

First word in my comment s/b Is, not It.

Wasn't Gates' house broken into recently? The cops asked Gates if he wanted them to secure his door before they took him to jail - he told them the door was broken and couldn't be secured because it was damaged in an earlier break-in. Isn't it possible his neighbor knew of the earlier break-in, and was calling the cops in order to PROTECT Gates' property when she saw two men pushing in the front door?

Why do we automatically assign the worst possible motives to everyone who is white and caught up in a "racially charged incident"?

I haven't encountered Ms. Glover before. didn't know her style, and perhaps she had a message I missed.

Or maybe she knew something about that neighbor that I hadn't read. But otherwise I felt Glover was just pulling her statements from the nether regions.

Moving on from Glover.........

I am often frustrated at what professional reporting has become. Key facts are omitted and obvious questions, such as "Did Gates come home with a backpack?" are never asked.

But the media always has time and space for spin and unsupported guesses by those who weren't there.

I wonder if that pisher Obama has any idea that his mouthing off about the Gates incident has probably gotten 95% of the cops in this country - and probably half the firefighters - pissed off at him, or if he has any idea what a bad thing that is.

Racial pimping! Classic.

I wonder what the soft-spoken Reverend Manning will say about this - he's been calling Obama a mack-daddy since before he was even elected.
