When Nimzovitch lost to Saemisch in Berlin, which cost him first prize in their tournament, he swept the pieces to the floor, jumped onto the table and screamed, "Why must I lose to this idiot?" Saemisch's reaction is not recorded.
Perhaps denigrating one's conqueror is the only compensation guaranteed to remain available after a defeat.
