Mind-Reading Ms. Hillary

Hillary-vs-Obama--37536.jpg

"Backward, turn backward, O Time in thy flight.
Let us remember this moment, just for tonight.

Spring, 2004: "After a faltering press conference by Mr Bush in April, and with Iraq in turmoil, John Kerry exclaimed: 'I can't believe I'm losing to this idiot!' " -- Times Online

"Forward, roll forward, O Time in thy flight.
Let us imagine this moment, just for tonight.

Spring, 2008: Safe at last from the media that have dogged her steps for the last 8 years, with her prospects faltering, and with Iraq doing pretty well, Hillary Clinton exclaims, "I can't believe I'm losing to this ___________ !"

You fill in the blank.

That sort of ejaculation is always so ironic. When Nimzovitch lost to Saemisch in Berlin, which cost him first prize in their tournament, he swept the pieces to the floor, jumped onto the table and screamed, "Why must I lose to this idiot?" Saemisch's reaction is not recorded.

Perhaps denigrating one's conqueror is the only compensation guaranteed to remain available after a defeat.
