Eighty-Seven Billion dollars ... This is what the President is asking for. It is 100 feet tall, 250 feet long,ï¿ and 125 feet wide. A stack of singles would be 28,998,000 feet, or over 5,492 miles, or a round-trip between Washington DC and Los Angeles, California. (2,650 miles, one-way).A Boeing 737-200 jet is 100 feet long. You could fit 2 of those jets nose to nose along the length of this pile, and have room to spare.ï¿$87 billion is more than all of the states' current budget deficits, combined.ï¿$87 billion is more than twice the amount we're spending on Homeland Security.
A masterful illustration of what $87,000,000,000.00 looks like. From Dave Faris at Crunchland. What is even more interesting is seeing how he gets there from one thin dollar.

Posted by Vanderleun at October 11, 2003 8:39 PM | TrackBackSo how's President Bush going to get all those dollars to Iraq? After all, he doesn't have Saturn rockets like we had in the Sixties when we dumped $24 billion on the moon!
Maybe a better comparison would be to show that pile of ones (who uses $1 bills anymore?) in context. Perhaps in the center of a certain vacant lot in lower Manhattan...?

Posted by: Vanderleun at October 14, 2003 11:52 AMOfcourse Bush isn't planning to really get even a million of that money in Iraq. The 'free & peaceful' Iraq Bush still sees today is already making more money then Bush senior did in his hayday, and the mo' is going STRAIGHT into the pockets of the occupiers. It was so predictable i bet even Osama Bin Laden already saw it coming. In 5 years Iraq's oil reserves will be exhausted, Bush junior will be exhausted and neo-conservatives will (again) want to start a war almost anywhere as long as there's enough black gold (oil). Just 'cause your country is and has been the biggest in years doesn't mean every American should be liked, honoured and pampered for all his life. 2000 was a very bad year 'cause of this ever-defected drugabuser, but it was a whole lot worse for every single man, woman, child, animal & plant on this very planet. Terrorism isn't a threat, it's a cure for the green $-shaped irises Bush had in his eyes, he really ought to get those fixed. The sooner the better but villains never change so lock 'm up!!!
