Want to See the Real "New Normal?"

This is the real "new normal." Accept no cheap substitutions raised up out of shadow.

"Barefoot Blue Jean Night"

A full moon shinin' bright
Edge of the water; we were feelin' alright
Back down a country road
The girls are always hot, and the beer is ice cold

Cadillac, horns on the hood
My buddy Frankie had his dad hook him up good
Girls smile when we roll by
They hop in the back, and we cruise to the river side

(Whoa-oh)
Never gonna grow up
(Whoa-oh)
Never gonna slow down
(Whoa-oh)
We were shinin' like lighters in the dark
In the middle of a rock show
(Whoa-oh)
We were doin' it right
(Whoa-oh)
We were comin' alive
(Whoa-oh)
Yeah, caught up in a Southern summer, a barefoot, blue jean night

Blue eyes and auburn hair
Sittin' lookin' pretty by the fire in a lawn chair
New to town, and new to me
Her ruby red lips was sippin' on sweet tea
Shot me in love like a shootin' star
So, I grabbed a beer and my ol' guitar
Then we sat around till the break of dawn
Howlin' and singin' our favorite song

(Whoa-oh)
Never gonna grow up
(Whoa-oh)
Never gonna slow down
(Whoa-oh)
We were shinin' like lighters in the dark
In the middle of a rock show
(Whoa-oh)
We were doin' it right
(Whoa-oh)
We were comin' alive
(Whoa-oh)
Yeah, caught up in a Southern summer, a barefoot, blue jean night.....

That boy singin' got real purty lips, ain't he?

Pretty typical these days, all guff and little stuff.

The singers vocal range spans an entire 4 notes (1/2 octave) such that he sounds like country rap music.

The best thing in this song is the studio musicians and boardman that pulls it all together.

This would all be a little more apparent in the absence of the distractionary and irrelevent canned video edits.

Turn the monitor off and just listen.

Generic country. But if it moves you, good for you.

I agree with you Ghostsniper. Shots of pretty women help distract from the absolute lack of talent from the singer. "Country" music, indeed.

I have a part time friend that thinks he's a country singer and writes all sorts of goofy assed songs. He got ahold of a place in Nashville that will, for a fee, take a persons vocal recording and mix it with studio musicians work and produce a finished song in mp3 format. When I first heard it I was stunned, for about 10 seconds. Then I ripped it apart. It sounded very professionally done. But after a brief analysis I noted that the instruments far outweighed the shitty vocals and the whole thing was heavily muted to further obscure the shitty vocals yet still produce something that could be construed by novices as being worthy of listening to. Suffice to say there was no way to decipher what the lyrics were because of the muffled tone. I pointed this out to him and he got insanely irritated. LOL

Sometimes I place honesty over emotionalism when maybe I should have just shut my ass. HA!

BTW, I'm the farthest thing from being a country music reviewer as I have been a lifelong rocker and player. But I DO know what's good, and what isn't, and most of what's out there today isn't.

Technical comments about the countryness of the song aside, I think it is a lovely reminder of the joy our everyday life can provide.

Thank you Cletus. Pretty much my thought in bringing it forward.
