The Masque of the Red Death by Edgar Allan Poe (read by Tom O'Bedlam)

THE "Red Death" had long devastated the country.

No pestilence had ever been so fatal, or so hideous. Blood was its Avatar and its seal --the redness and the horror of blood. There were sharp pains, and sudden dizziness, and then profuse bleeding at the pores, with dissolution. The scarlet stains upon the body and especially upon the face of the victim, were the pest ban which shut him out from the aid and from the sympathy of his fellow-men. And the whole seizure, progress and termination of the disease, were the incidents of half an hour.
But the Prince Prospero was happy and dauntless and sagacious. When his dominions were half depopulated, he summoned to his presence a thousand hale and light-hearted friends from among the knights and dames of his court, and with these retired to the deep seclusion of one of his castellated abbeys....
And the life of the ebony clock went out with that of the last of the gay. And the flames of the tripods expired. And Darkness and Decay and the Red Death held illimitable dominion over all. -- The Masque of the Red Death

Last week I went to the doctor's office for a blood test. When the receptionist asked how she could help me, I had a wild impulse to yell out "I gots the Ebola!". I didn't do it. Now I wonder if that's going to be one of the stories I tell around the campfire next year at Survivor Camp #9-NW/6217.

The Pale Horse of Death stands right by our sides.

When the Lamb opened the fourth seal, I heard the voice of the fourth living creature say, "Come and see." I looked and there before me was a pale horse.
Its rider was named Death, and Hades was following close behind him. They were given power over a fourth of the earth to kill by sword, famine and plague, and by the wild beasts of the earth. — Revelation 6:7-8

In the coming months we will see shoot-on-sight scenarios as citizens protect their communities and homes from the plague.
We will see busses and boxcars loading up people and ostensibly relocating them to FEMA camps. Some of the carriers will be shunted off onto remote sidings where D10 cats wait patiently beside ditches.
When we see our leaders and other power/money people heading for the bunkers it will be chaos on the ground.

Chasmatic, I am expecting something like that scene too, if this thing doesn't dwindle soon. Compassion, my foot. People will act like its the zombie apocalypse.
