Sure your education will suck and you'll be hideously in debt, but you'll have no job waiting for you when you graduate! Its ... wait, how is this good?

In all honestly people who approach a college education as fancy trade school get what they deserve. You're an idiot if you do that, but its what people expect.

My youngest daughter (now in her mid '40s) took a B.A. in English because she loved to read and write. At graduation got a job with a law office proofing and editing lawyer output, based on her adviser recommending her as a critical reader and accomplished writer. Then hired by a medical licensing board doing the same work, got a MPA and para-legal certification, and is now one of the higher ups. Not too bad for a rudderless English major.

Two of my sisters got "useless" degrees, but since they're making more money than I ever have (in unrelated fields), I don't think it's a problem. As pointed out above, college should not be seen as a glorified trade school but as a privilege for those who love learning. (My two brothers are also well-employed; one has a BS and a MS and is a rocket scientist, while the other has no college degree and runs a computer network for a major company. You don't need a degree to get a good job, though you might need them for *specific* good jobs.)

Anecdotes from years ago don't count. The game has changed. For example, now even people with actual law degrees are having trouble getting jobs at law firms.
