My Good Friend Says, "I Just Don't Understand Why Americans Can't See Through Him"

Transcript: But there’s a reason. There’s a reason. There’s a reason for this, there’s a reason education SUCKS, and it’s the same reason it will never, ever, EVER be fixed.

It’s never going to get any better, don’t look for it, be happy with what you’ve got.

Because the owners, the owners of this country don't want that. I'm talking about the real owners now, the BIG owners! The Wealthy… the REAL owners! The big wealthy business interests that control things and make all the important decisions.

Forget the politicians. They are irrelevant. The politicians are put there to give you the idea that you have freedom of choice. You don't. You have no choice! You have OWNERS! They OWN YOU. They own everything. They own all the important land. They own and control the corporations. They’ve long since bought, and paid for the Senate, the Congress, the state houses, the city halls, they got the judges in their back pockets and they own all the big media companies, so they control just about all of the news and information you get to hear. They got you by the balls.

They spend billions of dollars every year lobbying, lobbying, to get what they want. Well, we know what they want. They want more for themselves and less for everybody else, but I'll tell you what they don’t want:

They don’t want a population of citizens capable of critical thinking. They don’t want well informed, well educated people capable of critical thinking. They’re not interested in that. That doesn’t help them. Thats against their interests.

Thats right. They don’t want people who are smart enough to sit around a kitchen table and think about how badly they’re getting fucked by a system that threw them overboard 30 fucking years ago. They don’t want that!

You know what they want? They want obedient workers. Obedient workers, people who are just smart enough to run the machines and do the paperwork. And just dumb enough to passively accept all these increasingly shitty jobs with the lower pay, the longer hours, the reduced benefits, the end of overtime and vanishing pension that disappears the minute you go to collect it, and now they’re coming for your Social Security money. They want your retirement money. They want it back so they can give it to their criminal friends on Wall Street, and you know something? They’ll get it. They’ll get it all from you sooner or later cause they own this fucking place! It's a big club, and you ain’t in it! You, and I, are not in the big club.

By the way, it's the same big club they use to beat you over the head with all day long when they tell you what to believe. All day long beating you over the head with their media telling you what to believe, what to think and what to buy. The table has tilted folks. The game is rigged and nobody seems to notice. Nobody seems to care! Good honest hard-working people; white collar, blue collar it doesn’t matter what color shirt you have on. Good honest hard-working people continue, these are people of modest means, continue to elect these rich cock suckers who don’t give a fuck about you….they don’t give a fuck about you… they don’t give a FUCK about you.

They don’t care about you at all… at all… AT ALL. And nobody seems to notice. Nobody seems to care. Thats what the owners count on. The fact that Americans will probably remain willfully ignorant of the big red, white and blue dick thats being jammed up their assholes everyday, because the owners of this country know the truth.

It's called the American Dream, because you have to be asleep to believe it.

Nice Speech. Where's the funny? Anger is one of the best catalysts for comedy, but if you leave it in its raw form, without getting the funny out of it, you just sound like an eloquent, angry old guy. Carlin was great back in the day, before he was HBO-ized.

Of course, he thought he was talking about Bush, Reagan, and the Republicans. I'm not sure he would have been so caustic about the Democrats and Obama.

George was about half right, which is as close as he ever got. Conservatives squeal in delight when the people they expect to be all wrong get it half right.

When this country was evolving through the process of rich pricks competing against each other--ambition against ambition, in defect of better motives--it was in better hands. Now it is in the hands of what Madison and Hamilton called Visionary and Utopian philosophers, which was intended as a slur. It's a long way down.

Given that ALL the powers that Carlin rails against have lined up against the TEA parties you'd think he might have recognized his own cognitive dissonance if given a little more time.

I just don’t see how Carlin’s rant is against either party, or why what he says isn’t true. Let’s say he was flinging arrows against Reagan/Bush 41, does that somehow make what he says incorrect for what is going on today?

He plainly spells it out - “Forget the politicians. They are irrelevant. The politicians are put there to give you…” That’s not exactly being partisan.

And how has “The Wealthy… the REAL owners!” as Carlin says “lined up against the TEA parties”? That one just is confusing.

And how is only “half right”? I don’t see how such a theory could be only half right. Disagree with his position, sure, but saying it’s half right, while not explaining how, is
another comment that leaves me baffled.

What’s half right about- “By the way, it's the same big club they use to beat you over the head with all day long when they tell you what to believe. All day long beating you over the head with their media telling you what to believe, what to think and what to buy. The table has tilted folks. The game is rigged and nobody seems to notice.” Does that mean they kind’a sort’a only half the time tell us what to believe?

Does the education system in this country suck or not? That’s in debate? How is that half right?

I tell what I think, the above comments, to me, make George’s point stick even harder against the wall. To look at and think about even more and realize he was dead freakin’ on.

@tim

getting fucked by a system that threw them overboard 30 fucking years ago.

I don't think he was talking about Carter, or that it started 30 years ago. I agree with what he is saying about the political class, but I think he is also politically prejudiced. It would be nice to know who "he" was that wasn't seen through, there is a bit of lead up missing from that video.

It is funny, Carlin makes fun of liberals also, our host has posted those videos as well. When he makes fun of liberals all the conservatives laugh and say how smart he is, that he must be conservative, that is a unique in entertainment and Hollywood. Conservatives love him.
When he makes fun of conservatives the conservatives do a 180° turn and call him a typical liberal commie, etc etc. He makes fun of both.

It is amazing how you people don't get it even when it is in front of your face.

Grumpy court jester.

"CONELRAD" was the funniest joke he ever made.

Posted by: B Lewis at October 18, 2013 4:38 PM

Potsie, Carlin spent a lot more time in his career making fun of conservatives than he did of liberals.

Carlin says a lot of things that are true, but he's not aging well with me. "They call it the American Dream, because you have to be asleep to believe it," says the guy who actually lived the dream. His solution: Join George Carlin in sitting back and sneering.

"They call it the American Dream, because you have to be asleep to believe it,"

I'll be sure to remind all of the immigrants, both legal and illegal, who risk life and fortune to get here about that.

I'll be sure to remind my ancestors on my father's side who came through Ellis Island and built a good life from scratch.

I'll be sure to remind Bill Gates, Steve Jobs, the douche-bag who owns Facebook, and every other mega-millionaire who made it themselves (except in Obama's eyes).

Carlin started out funny, I don't know what happened, but he lost it along the way. In my opinion anyway.
