Lansburgh Girls Win Style Prize

Five Models Gain Cup at Tidal Bathing Beach Costume Show.

With five models displaying the most modern bathing costumes, Lansburgh & Brother won the prize cup at the first annual style show, held yesterday afternoon at the Tidal bathing beach. The models who represented Lansburgh's -- all local girls -- were Mary Lee, Iola Swinnerton, Thelma Spencer, Hattie Spencer and Julia Cunningham. The suits which they wore were special importations, brought to Washington for exhibition at this show ... -- Washington Post, 6/26/1921

The one in the middle is a boxer and to the right of her is Miss Saggy.

The one of the far right is wearing heels!

Ooookey dokey.

Do standards of beauty evolve, or just arbitrarily change?

Just love the gal on the far left. She's carrying an umbrella, just in case it rains.

After all, these beautiful bathing suits aren't supposed to get wet!

That silver cup was for the winner of the knobbly knees competition.

Trannies have been around far longer than I thought!

Yeah, the boxing boots don't do anything for me, either, but overall, I've seen far worse. The gal on the middleweight contendah's own left could also use a few more rounds in the gym, but hey, I'm not as svelte as I used to be, so it's a wash.

Stupid clothes that are supposedly high-fashion are nothing new. If you're ever in London, stop in at the Victoria & Albert Museum and see their clothing collections from the 17th & 18th Centuries. Among other things, it will become immediately clear why women have been the ones who've kept podiatrists in business over the years.

Oh NOOOOO Is that Mr. Bill's grandfather being held by the super model on the left?

Stop and consider who organized the competition, the League of Women Voters.

Rodney Dangerfield fourth from the left. He looks so young...and in drag.
