If We Believed in Omens....

A 500-Pound Meteor Generates a Very Bright Fireball Over the Eastern United States as It Crashes to Earth

NASA reports that early Tuesday morning a meteor illuminated the sky over New York, Ohio, and Pennsylvania with a very bright fireball as it came crashing to Earth. The meteor, with an estimated diameter of two feet and a weight of 500 pounds, was traveling at about 45,000 miles per hour. During its descent, which was captured on NASA cameras, the meteor flared brighter than a full moon. NASA believes fragments of the meteor are likely scattered on the ground east of Kittanning, Pennsylvania.

1943. My brother and I were camped at Dream Lake in Rocky Mountain National Park. Laying in our sleeping bags watching the stars overhead at about 9pm. Suddenly a flaming ball about the size of a small house passed over heading from West to East - seemingly just above the tree tops. We knew at once that it was a meteor. We were certain that it would impact somewhere in Eastern Colorado. After returning home, we made inquiries of the adults in our family, "Any news of a meteor hitting somewhere East of here?" The answer, "Nope." It appears that very few meteors actually survive to strike the Earth. And there are more of them than we realize.

Be not alarmed.
These are merely ballistics exercises ordered by Kragon the Ruthless, Third Emperor of the Crustacean Dynasty, Lord of All That Walk Upon the Land and Swim in the Waters.
"Ranging shots" you might call 'em.
