Hey, Vanderleun! You're going to have to head further south than my town if you want to feel some warmth.....it's blowing ice cold here today.

Hope you enjoy your visit.

Amazing. If your Rosie had those tattoos removed and was carrying an old-fashioned, dome-lidded aluminum lunch pail, she'd look a good bit like my mom in her riveting days.

Mom, who's 91 now, still lives independently not far from me. She was part of a riveting crew that worked on Grumman F6F Hellcats in one of the John Deere plants in East Moline. Ten years ago she bumped up against one of my boy cousins and a friend working on a Cessna in a KC hangar, trying to rivet. "Here, fellas", she said. "Let me show you how to do that." And from what I hear, she did.

Happy travels.

Enjoy your stay. Would love to buy you lunch as some small payback for all the good reading you provide.

Now wait a minute.

Did you take the picture of Rosie?

Is she for real?

Posted by: Cathy at January 5, 2009 12:02 PM

Yup. I took those shots. She's for real.

Gerard,

Any chance your Texas travels might take in some of our scenic, costal devestation?

In other words, give me a shout if you're going to be within 100 miles of Galvetraz. I'll check in with work and call in bored to get the day off.

Good food, guns aplenty, great Scotch, fine cigars, and a knowledgeable tour guide await.

Meanwhile, my best to Rosie! (my dear, late Mom was a "Rosie" building B-17s in California. small world!)

In any case, safe travels to you amigo.

Should you make Dallas during your walkabout, there's a place (actually several) in Dallas called The Blue Goose cantina.

The ALAMBRE DE CAMARONES are not to be missed–

Jumbo Shrimp wrapped in Bacon and stuffed with Cheese and a slice of Jalapeno. Mesquite Grilled and served on a bed of rice.

Best regarsd and safe journey.

G, I hope you can catch some live music while in the area. Texas has some amazing singer/songwriters in the "border-TexMex" genre. Real country-not the Nashville crap.

Some us do stutter, however.

Amy Winehouse is working in Austin now?

I agree! Shiner Bock is the way you want to go.
