Wait, there's a blog named "I Blame the Patriarchy"?

Hey, I was already there for most of the day, and then some familiar names started showing up in the comments... Who linked it, I wondered, seems it was Gateway Pundit.

I'm trying to figure out why it matters to me (it does) that at least one liberal feminist can look at Palin rationally (and articulate it so well). I understand not agreeing politically and in turn fighting them vehemently, but the irrational hatred of an honest to goodness, self-made, hard working, effective woman just never made sense.

I understand it still doesn't but at least one feminist woman is proud of an accomplished American women who doesn't share her views politically.

Very interesting post and comment section.

I agree...there's a blog named "I Blame the Patriarchy"?

Great article. The answer is 'fear'. They hate because they fear.

OMG, Gerard! Thank you for this. I'm only 44 comments into it and I can't hold back. Here I am, a 40-something, former lefty feminist engineer enjoying watching the onset of gradual self-awareness. And praise God(!) he gave me the instinct to give up my "career" to have and raise a family. As a lefty feminist, I sure didn't have the wisdom.

Just a few thoughts... conservatives get so many things so right - one of which is we let individuals be individuals without regard to race, creed, color or SEX! The patriarchy, my a@@! The modern "feminist" can't tear her eyes away from genitalia! Who the f**k cares? /just had to cuss as I'm speaking about my liberal friends/ Hillary didn't lose the primary because she's a woman. She lost because the media bamboozled tribal-Democrats and a large chunk of moderates about Obama. I refuse to call myself a feminist ever again until feminists stop looking to be victims! /in all honesty, even if they stopped being victims, I probably would not identify with them because you have to advocate killing the next generation to be a part of that club/

And yes - they're getting at least one thing absolutely right over at Violet's place. /please sing this opera-style/

p r o j e c t i o n... prrr o j e c t i o n... prro je hec tion!

Thank you again for posting this. It is such a relief to know the hypnotic spell can be broken.

It was damn hard for me to push beyond Violet's remark about wishing Christianity would evaporate from the face of the earth, but I put on the energy shield and made it through but then stopped after about the . . . .

"Love the ones you can. Touch the ones you can reach. Let the others go" is my new motto and I'm sticking to it like that wise man who could perform no miracles in Nazareth.

The left purports to stand for all good things against all bad things but really it only cares about one thing: P O W E R

I know what you mean qp regarding the various anti-Christian remarks designed to reinforce her own internal credentials, but taking the essay and the comments whole is worth it on balance.

Yes, it's a peculiarly toxic combination of projection and displacement.

Lost my brilliant comment over at RL, so I'm re-writing off-line to post here. Damn, I hate it when that happens.

I read up to 260 some comments and on the whole, the discussion was incredible! A singularity on the blogosphere. I've never seen anything like it. Even though the “feminists” go off into the weeds of “patriarchy” (they all must have gone to graduate school), there are many moments of honest assessment which astound. It is the first expression of regret I've ever heard from the Left about anything.

Before I so carelessly caressed my touchpad, I was explaining that I've found myself in the awkward position of defending the haters. They hate Palin's values and her apparently happy successful life found in the application of them. For them, she is a repudiation of everything they believe in as good. Their position is honest and consistent even if their tactics are vile. Do they hate her more than they hate Bush, Cheney, Limbaugh et al? It think it is qualitative (because she is a woman) – not quantitative. I think hatred of Condoleeza Rice would make PDS look like sanity if she had as apparently successful a private life as Palin. Remember Bushitler? Conservatives are evil. It is hard to hate one evil more than another, but black or female conservatives are going to get the full treatment because they are also traitors to liberalism. Although Violet is seeking truth, she has the knee-jerk leftist tendency to emphasize the group over the individual. She is therefore very conflicted about Palin, who as a decent, successful, smart woman she should admire and even support (because she is a self-described feminist and a woman), but as a conservative with Christian conservative values Violet reviles, she can't go so far as to vote for her.

This is something I've been saying to all my Obama supporting friends and relations over the election cycle. Why vote for (or in any way support) someone who does not represent your values? I voted against Obama not because he's half black, but because nearly everything he believes in I'm against. If Thomas Sowell had been running, I'd happily have voted for him. And even though I believe in the tenets of Violet's definition of feminism, i.e., the full humanity of women and equality of the sexes (not sameness, but equal infinite worth), I would never vote for Palin because she is a woman, but only if she were the candidate who best represented my values. Violet and her friends on the Left should do the same without apology. They should just stop slandering people with whom they disagree. And most definitely – leave the kids out of it. But the feminist Left can't see that their rejection of religion (patriarchy again!) leads many of them to dehumanize their ideological opponents.

Discussions such as this might lead to some sort of awakening and it is very good to hear regret over the treatment of Palin, however as a Christian I place no faith in the flesh.

Fascinating comments. Most germane and without the vitriol common to touchy subjects. Plus very few pointless threadjacking comments.

I voted (R) last election entirely due to Palin, because I believe her to be honest and real, not perfect and plastic. She is entirely comfortable with herself, and while she might not do everything I want, I believe in her basic integrity and goodness.

McCain, bless his heart, did honorable service for his country, but he did not engage me. I refused to consider a candidate who'd nominate Joe Biden as his veep. I would have left the top of the ballot blank were it not for Palin on the ticket.

I hope she finds her place in the American political scene, and I hope that good men and women of all political persuasions wake up, realize what's being done to her, feel ashamed, and speak out against it.

It's really very simple and involves three truths that all women who grew up in the 70's have had to deal with:

1. Liars hate honesty.

2. Liars especially hate honest women who speak truth.

3. Liars attack attractive women who honestly and courageously
speak truth.

Attractive women are supposed to know "their place"--as eye candy, but are not allowed to speak in an intelligent manner about matters of world importance. Those of us who are courageously honest, attractive or average, have had to battle this since our teens. I actually had a man at a business party say to me once, "Oh, you have opinions I see." Yes, I do indeed. Doesn't everyone? I greatly admire Sarah Palin's courage under fire.
