When you're a country like England and you want the world to take you seriously as a major player in the no-fly-zone, what do you do?

You put one of your aircraft carriers up for auction, of course! More than that you put your flagship aircraft carrier up for the scrap heap.

ARK ROYAL R07

Why? Because your entire culture and history and present has become so spiritually and mentally degraded that you just want to die as a nation and a people. And you will get your wish.

There's a reason that the last meaningful contribution to the world from England was "The Monty Python Show."

Update: Replaced this original shot of the ARK ROYAL R09, scrapped in 1980 with the Ark Royal currently being scrapped, RO7 (top).

You mean Harry Potter, Stewart Brand and Amy Winehouse aren't meaningful contributions?

Elton John should buy it, paint it pink, and rename it the HMS Poofter

And your photo is of the old Ark Royal, scrapped in 1980. Much larger and more capable than the newer one of the same name they are scrapping now. The old one had real fixed wing aircraft, fighters and bombers like Phantoms that used catapults to take off and arresting wires to land.
Even back then, it was much smaller than one a typical US carrier. There are stories of exchange flights of Royal Navy aircraft on US carriers and vice versa during the Cold War. The story goes that British carriers like Ark Royal where considered by the Americans to be so small they refused to allow their planes to land on them. Don't know if that story is really true, but when seen side by side, as in the Wikipedia entry for Ark Royal (R09) you can see why it might have started.

Wonder if they could turn it into floating condos?

As my British friend Trevor is fond of saying, "We've lost the plot."

Yep. I'm British, and ashamed of us for electing the spineless worms who now run the country.

Obviously, its' much less important to give our military (still one of the finest in the world) the tools to do the job properly than to give money away to rabble-rousing foreigners, and also subsidise the production of undrinkable wine that ends up as industrial alcohol, tobacco so foul that it's only good for making rat poison and poor-quality grain that ends up stored for decades to keep the prices up for French farmers. Obviously. After all, that's what we are doing. Meanwhile, the decent people of Britain are being submerged under a tsunami of foreigners with nasty habits and an utterly alien culture, who speak not a word of English and carry all sorts of foul diseases that once were all but eradicated. All in the name of PC.

And there is no party with a chance of getting in that cares. UKIP? Sure I agree with them. But they haven't got a prayer.

And the Argies will now go out in canoes and reclaim the Malvinas.
