Papuan tribal warriors armed with bows and arrows and improvised shields move into position as clashes erupted anew between two tribes in Kwamki Lama village in Mimikaa, a district located in Indonesia's restive Papua province, on June 18, 2012. -- Arrows fly as tribal clashes break out in Indonesia's Papua

And ye shall hear of wars and rumours of wars: see that ye be not troubled: for all these things must come to pass, but the end is not yet. For nation shall rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom: and there shall be famines, and pestilences, and earthquakes, in divers places. -- Matthew 24:7

The losers in this conflict will be eaten.

The myth of the Nobel Savage at peace with his neighbors and his environment is just that a myth:

If the world is more peaceful now that it was in the past, it is due solely to the Pax Americana. If Hussein destroys our ability to enforce it, hell will be out for breakfast.

This is par for the course with Papuan tribes. While some are peaceful, many others are warlike. And this display of bows, arrows, and improvised shields is not for show. These guys will kill each other if given a chance.

I worked with a guy who lived in PNG for many years.

The stories he told were frightening. "Civilization" is not something these people are ready for.

Update from this clash, in case anyone cares: one killed (arrow to the chest), 15 wounded. Cause of conflict, per Indonesian authorities: one tribe challenged the other to fight. No other reason given.
