Back in '77 I went on one of my few official vacations, to Hawai'i. After I'd been on Oahu for about a week I took an overnight sail to Maui, which turned out to be 15 hours in a 50 foot boat across the Molokai channel in a ten-foot chop. And I gritted my teeth and Didn't Throw Up because I knew if I did I'd never stop. What a nightmare.
The next time I was on a boat, in the '90s, I was entertaining on a cruise ship, up the Inside Passage to Sitka and beyond. On the way back we went right across the Gulf of Alaska in a looooong swell. I still occasionally have dreams of skating across a ballroom floor in a tuxedo, holding a microphone and singing Mozart while everything swaaayed and swuuung.
Wheeee.
Ship to shore,
can't see the coastline anymore;
I shouldn't be here,
I thought I made that loud and clear.
