Obamagas: Why Pay Less?

SUMMERTIME BLUES FOR DRIVERS: GAS AT AUGUST RECORD

Across the U.S., prices range from a low of $3.43 per gallon in South Carolina to $4.32 in Hawaii. Arizona, Mississippi and New Mexico also have average prices below $3.50 per gallon, while California and Illinois are up above the $4 mark.

So, Grasshopper, are you driving more or less than you did four years ago?

Isn't it amazing that when W was president,it was all his fault that the price of gasoline was all his fault? When it spiked, it was Bush paying off his buddies at Halliburton. When the price dropped it was Bush trying to influence the election. Now that Obama is president, and the price spiked to record levels, why the president has no control over the price of gasoline. It's just so amazing that an (R) after a president's name makes him omnipotent, while a (D) makes him impotent.

Oops! There is a bit of redundancy in the first sentence. My fault.

More to the point, are you still taking two tons of iron with you when you go to buy cigarettes?

Higher gasoline prices mean lower consumption and therefore less money in the coffers of those who want to kill or enslave us.

Not in the US it doesn't, Fletcher, although I won't argue against more efficient engineering. The US is sitting on a sea of oil, enough to tide us over until some genuinely revolutionary technology matures (I'm looking at you, fusion--pipe down, wind and solar) but we won't develop it until we fire the current government. We're still enriching the sand ticks because there is an administration in place which seems to think that the country should shrive itself because it thinks we've sinned.

Or maybe it wants to hand out money extracted from the bill payers (actually tax payers, but I think "bill payers" describes the situation more accurately) to campaign contributors. Either way, it's stupid to deliberately strangle the economy, and make no mistake, Obama's taken decisions that deliberately impair the US's ability to produce cheaper energy. Other decisions of his make it easier for other countries to produce their resources. It's almost enough to make one take an oath that the US elected a foreigner without knowing it, hmmm?

Well, when you combine the facts that the average age of American cars has never been as high as it is today (which tells me that any fuel efficiency attributed to hybrids is minimal, at best), with the fact that retail fuel purchases (in gallons) has never been as low as it is today, I'd say we're driving quite a bit fewer miles than we every have.

Of course, the economy sucks, and we have never left "Recession", so this ought to come as no surprise.

Three words; summer fuel blends.

Many states mandate them and, guess what folks, it costs money to shut down and retro fit refineries to meet that seasonal demand.

Not to mention that the east coast is down at least two refineries that have recently closed and many others are aging all across the country, which ultimately increases gasoline costs.

The good news is that Louisiana and Texas are drilling shale like mad, new refineries have been approved and the Canadian pipeline is well on its way to pumping black gold down to the third coast.

I'd love to smack Obama around over this populist issue, but let's be honest and admit that forty years of bi-partisan congressional fuckery have made us energy dependent while increasing consumer costs of this most basic commodity.

Higher gas prices, of course, makes shipping more expensive, in turn making the products shipped more expensive also.

A little OT, but damn Ulsterman anyway. I used to like to visit the blog, but he's allowing those @#!*^%$ auto play pop-up ads. Note to bloggers- I don't mind ads. I want you to make a buck. But a pop up ad, or an auto-play signifies my last visit to your blog. I'm sure I'm not the only one.
