Marines: First to Fight, First to Have a Clue

As the days unfold, more and more people are going to wake up in the morning with the "unthinkable" thought, "I miss George Bush."

As always, the Marines were there first. Semper fi.

I can handle all the amateurism the Obama administration has shown in handling the economy and foreign policy (although the suffering of retirees and those we've made friends with overseas can't be denied). I sort of understand the appeal of Obama on grounds of his ability to speak and his apparent unflappability (although his dependence on the teleprompter and emptiness of his actual words is extremely unattractive to me). But, the thing that snaps me like a twig is the betrayal of our military men and women by the American electorate. I'm sending a thank-you to George Bush. Does anyone know where to send an apology to the armed forces? God bless them.

Now, why I am not surprised?

Hire a Harlem Globetrotter to do a real man's job, what do you expect?

I've heard louder clapping at a golf outing. It gives new meaning to the expression "damning with faint praise".

Greetings:

1) I would like to think that this is a demonstration of the "who would you rather have in your foxhole" effect. Punks don't fly jets.

2) What I also found illustrative was President Obama's reference to an upcoming military pay raise. Just so Chi-ca-go; go along with me and there's a little something in it for you.

I woke up on 1/21/09 missing G.W. Bush.

It has always fascinated me that CBS/Rather and other such folks incessantly tried to make a big deal over Bush's lack of Viet Nam service; yet the troop, from every service, recognized him as one of their own.

I consider George Bush to be an endearing man (I say that in a manly way) and never more so than when he was with his troops. That applied whether he was grieving with them, celebrating with them, or simply showing his respect by his presence.

My guess is that we will see less and less of Obama in settings involving the military--whether Brass or troops.

That was a LOUD rendition of "Hail to the Chief" which announced Obama's arrival. Not sure if it was being played that hot by the Marine Band by design, or if CNN boosted the level to cover the (lack of) troop reaction.
