It Seems to Me Twitter Validates Sturgeon's Law

twittertweet.jpg

It seems to me that one of the constants in our much touted "digital age" is that it routes around Sturgeon's Law that states “Ninety percent of everything is crap” by delivering 100 percent of everything. It is left to you to winnow out the 10 percent that is not crap. Twitter is the most recent example of this effect. It effectively delivers 100 percent crap 100 percent of the time. Which is why people love it. No winnowing.

I couldn't agree more ---it's just another addiction. It's why I'll never be on Facebook either. God, all I want to do is spend less time on the Web, rather than more. All this stuff is like a giant Tar Baby. Oops, any reference to any reall life Tar Babies is strictly coincidental. No really.

I still like it. It comes in very handy sometimes.

I admit that twitter is the only thing that could have possibly kept Treacher from his typical 15,000 word posts.

I had this very conversation yesterday morning. Twitter won't be happening in my world. I can see some practical applications for it, but it looks like the majority of tweets are composed of nothing more than inane/boring thought particles.

stupid bulimic cat tossed his cookies again
shoes keep coming untied
obama's a prick, HAH!
damn grocery bagger crushed my bread

Who cares?

What is twitter? Yes, I have heard of it incessantly but I still don't know it's purpose.

"No offense, Future Man, but is everyone in the future retarded?"

HAHAHAHA!

Think of it this way, however. That which we tweet, we do not post in a long-winded email. Tweets are easy to ignore, obligate no response, encourage brevity, take up no part of a space quota and need not be deleted.
