"And YOU have meddled with the primal forces of nature. And you will atone."

You have meddled with the primary forces of nature, Mr Beale, and I won't have it! Is that clear?

You think you merely stopped a business deal. That is not the case. The Arabs have taken billions of dollars out of this country, and now they must put it back! It is ebb and flow, tide and gravity. It is ecological balance.

You are an old man who thinks in terms of nations and peoples.

There are no nations. There are no peoples. There are no Russians. There are no Arabs. There are no Third Worlds. There is no West.

There is only one holistic system of systems. One vast and immane, interwoven, interacting, multi-varied, multi-national dominion of dollars. Petro-dollars, electro-dollars, multi-dollars, reichmarks, rands, rubles, pounds and shekels.

It is the international system of currency which determines the totality of life on this planet. That is the natural order of things today. That is the atomic, and sub-atomic and galactic structure of things today.

And YOU have meddled with the primal forces of nature. And you will atone.

Am I getting through to you, Mr Beale?

You get up on your little twenty-one inch screen and howl about America and democracy. There is no America. There is no democracy. There is only IBM and ITT and AT&T, and DuPont, Dow, Union Carbide and Exxon. Those are the nations of the world today.

What do you think the Russians talk about in their Councils of State? Karl Marx? They get out their linear programming charts, statistical decision theories, mini-max solutions, and compute the price-cost probabilities of their transactions and investments, just like we do.

We no longer live in a world of nations and ideologies, Mr Beale. The world is a college of corporations, inexorably determined by the immutable bye-laws of of business. The world is a business, Mr Beale. It has been since man crawled out of the slime.

And our children will live, Mr Beale, to see that ... perfect ... world in which there is no war nor famine, oppression or brutality. One vast and ecumenical holding company for whom all men will work to serve a common profit. In which all men will hold a share of stock.

All necessities provided. All anxieties tranquilized. All boredom amused.

Yea.. the "Brave New World" Order.

Trouble is, its not going to be like bright shining sparkly utopia mentioned in the book by Huxley. It'll be more like the movie "Idiocracy"

... those sparkly cities will be outside the "Huxley Plantations", it'll be where ever teh "Savage Reservations" are allowed.

California vs Texas.

We did them one worse. Those fictional masters had a profit motive, ours only have a power motive.

And then comes in the Islamist. Who cares nothing for the paneling or the green-shaded lamps. Who kills and cuts off the head of the man lecturing Beal.

Because his God said to do that.

I remember that movie, and I think - now - that it was a perfect picture of the late 1970's in the Post WWII Order. The Soviets and the Americans are exactly the same - only they are not. There are no nations and peoples and ethnic groups - only there are. There are no religions other than money - except the moneylenders get turned out of the Temple.

It is a good look at the soul of West Coast Hollywood and East Coast NYC; and the High Priest of that Temple in his raiment of a three piece suit and in his High Fane paneled in rare rich woods declaims well the Dogma of his God.

However, there are other Gods and the followers of those Gods do not fear the rituals of that God in Network. They War upon him with the old ways of war; the tried and true ways of war.

And those Gods are out there; and they will come in if the sentry posts are not manned by those who do not worship in the Temple of the God of Network. Those who worship in the Temple of an older God, one less subtle. Those whom the followers of the God of Network want destroyed.

The Gods of The Copybook Headings are Coming....

That still fascinates. It is the 'future-is-living-in-the-mall' sort of view of the city and life and all of that. It is as if H.G. Wells got to actually be in charge of everything.

But it does not work that way, does it?

The executive does his harangue and Howard Beal stands up and says:

"I have seen the light"
Executive smirks.
"And you are Satan."
Executive stops smirking and fouls his pants as Howard rips the Executive's throat out.

Seriously - what does petro-dollar and Soviets = USA do when he is faced with someone who actually wants to drink of his blood? Hire the Weather Underground to wipe out Beal?

Ooooo - sweet. And when there are multiple people willing to die just to get a good hit in on the infidel? And the Weather Underground types really start soiling themselves when they run up against people who have an ideology that they will kill - and die - for and the Weather Underground types really don't have the same steel that was in those on Guadalcanal? Because that was stupid, and stuff, man...?

I wish I was twenty years older so that I would have twenty less years to watch this idiocy of ideologues vs. nihilists get played out again.
