Guilty Pleasures

gotojail2.jpg
I know I am probably the only one who gets an inner thrill when I read headlines like: Hundreds of lawyers arrested

Yes, yes, I know there are greater issues afoot here, and even more trouble and tragedy ahead for Pakistan. Still, I just can't help divorcing that headline from it's content and reading for the sheer, abstract pleasure.

That's just the kind of shallow, uncaring person I am. I am certain I'm the only one.

No you're not! I was thinking myself, after the police get through arresting the lawyers in Paki why not come over here to Manhattan and arrest about a thousand or two!
Just fanticizing

My fantasy is that lawyers, DA's and judges got paid the same as cops since they are all considered "officers of the court". We know that'll never happen 'cause those guys are so smart, ethical, greedy, er ethical, edgumacated, and, as in the case John Edwards, very adept at getting "maximum return". I wonder why the socialistic of the species don't demand this themselves.

We want UNIVERSAL LAWCARE!

Give it two weeks, and the same paper will be reporting their healthcare costs have plummeted and that the manufacturing sector has taken off like a rocket in the absence of deep-pockets liability suits.

Just dreaming here. Carry on.

My wonderful daughter (who just made me a first-time grandfather) is a lawyer and she's married to a Prince of a man who is a District Attorney; I love my children and their spouses, but, My Gawd, How can you NOT celebrate a headline like this? Musharraf has finally figured it out -- Shakespeare was right!

Yeah, yeah. And when of those underpaid cops knocks down your down in the middle of the night and throws you in the lockup, JD, I'm sure you'll want a government-employed civil servant looking out for your interests.

The rest of you can call me. We can work out terms!
