Obama: The 9/10 "Patriot"

Pin_AmericanFlag.jpg"Where is the acknowledgment that this was not a 'cowardly' attack on 'civilization' or 'liberty' or 'humanity' or 'the free world' but an attack on the world's self-proclaimed superpower, undertaken as a consequence of specific American alliances and actions?" Susan Sontag, September 24, 2001

A more cynical person might believe that the only reason Obama is in the race is to make Hillary look like an actual patriot, and is, in fact, working for the Clintons on a nod and wink for 2012. But why would I believe something like that?

On the other hand, the Kid Kandidate seems to be tanking almost on cue. And, if you tank early after his sort of fund-raising, you've got a nice little electoral nest egg to show for it.

Much has been made of the strange case of the vanishing flag pin, but the best explanation is still Obama's. Let's look at it again with a certain amount of emphasis.

"You know, the truth is that right after 9/11, I had a pin," Obama said....

Well, bully for Barack. It wasn't unusual to have such a pin "right after" 9/11. What was hard "right after" was finding one. The ones in stock, especially in New York City, were stripped from the shelves at light speed, and it was several weeks before the street hustlers could get them back in stock. People with memories will recall that flags sold out as well. People will also recall that the entire country -- save the hard-core political degenerates -- wanted to get into a 9/12 frame of mind and get a heap of Islamic terrorists dead as quickly as possible. Preferably at a ratio of about 100 dead Islamists for every single American killed on 9/11. (With Iraq we're currently at the 30,000 dead Islamists mark, so the end is not quite in sight.)

To be an American politician "right after" 9/11 and not seem patriotic was to risk political suicide. Politicians, especially Democrat politicians, are masters of "cryptic coloration;" of "mimicry" or seeming to be other than they are; of "mirroring" the expectations of whomever they are addressing. (Hillary's famous shift in linguals when addressing African-Americans is typical of this last bit of mirroring: "Aww don't feel noways tired. I've come too faarrr from where I started frum... )

So NOT having a flag pin "right after 9/11," wasn't an option for an American politician with a need to remain in office and national ambitions.

But that was then and this is now.

And now, with Hillary faking to the right, the natural response of Obama is to fake left. How better to do that that to remove the insignia of the country which has given him everything except the surfeit of his ambition? And if you can become less patriotic and explain it by saying it actually makes you more patriotic.... well, there you have the pure political poltroon in action. "Pure" because being a poltroon means being a base coward. And cowardice is the hallmark of the left side of the Democrat base -- a collection of base cowards of the base, if you will. To mirror this base with small gestures magnified by the media is to add money to your coffers. Coffers you will need after you lose in order to live and run again. When it is "your turn." Hence, dumping the flag is a cheap gambit reaps large rewards with no consequences.

Of course, you can't just dump the flag. That wouldn't do. You need to give the dumping of the flag a "context," and for Obama that "context" is to link the flag to Iraq. It doesn't matter that the flag stands for a universe of freedom and opportunity much, much more universal that Iraq. No, what Obama has to do is to shrink the flag to the size of Iraq, as if the flag symbolized that war and that war only. The way to do this is to shrink time, shrink it with the word "Shortly."

"... Shortly after 9/11, particularly because as we're talking about the Iraq War, that became a substitute for I think true patriotism...."

Note here that the six years between 9/11 and now have become "Shortly," and that what we are talking about is "true patriotism" -- which means, I suppose, whatever Obama want's it to mean. What he doesn't want it mean is that he is making an "unpatriotic" choice in order to curry favor with his base, which is exactly what he is doing.

According to Obama, "true patriotism" involves, above anything else, "speaking out."

"true patriotism, which is speaking out on issues that are of importance to our national security, I decided I won't wear that pin on my chest." -- ABC News: Barack Obama Drops U.S. Flag Pin

Yes, in looking back at Obama's record and his speeches it is easy to see how heavy, how ponderous that flag pin was getting on his chest. It was, since it weighed in at somewhere around a quarter of an ounce, clearly dragging him down. Or at least dragging him down with the base of cowards among his base that love nothing more than a gesture, any gesture, that denigrates and lowers the United States of America.

Hillary's trapped by her sex. She can't be one day less a candidate than a 9/12 candidate. What's open is the 9/10 slot. A slot Obama has oozed into by simply taking off the flag.

One wonders what else Obama will take off in order to get elected. His pants at a nudist's convention? His ginned-up "religion" at an atheist's convention?

One wonders even more what Obama would be willing to shed should he ever be elected President. His oath of office?

It's hard to say, but one thing is sure. Obama is now officially the candidate of the 9/10 Manchurian party of jaw-jaw. And they are welcome to him. In a way it is too bad Susan Sontag is not alive. Obama would surely get her vote. But come to think of it, since Sontag was a registered Democrat, he probably can still count on it.

"True Patriotism" = "my truth".

Man, it must rock to make all the rules up as you go along!

SAY the right things, write the right things, support the right agendas and never, EVER get dinged for outcomes.

We live in truly wondrous times.

I agree that Obama's recent statements might be parsed as indicating he's aiming for the future. However, demonstrating ignorance of both past and present seems a pretty counterproductive strategy toward that end. Even Hillary! has figured out the nutroots aren't important beyond whatever weight legacy media gives them.

The other option: he's just a 'tard, a biological moronic convergence of one wandering through the shoals of pop culture attempting to capitalize on all the victim status points the Left will grant.
