To which one can only reply, "What do you mean 'We,' white liberal leftoids?

At this stage, it seems obvious that the "Business Plan" of the New York Times is to skew harder and harder towards its evaporating base of West Siders, tweed-chocked college professors, and others sadly debiliated by Bush Derangement Syndrome, that normal centrists and independents when passing a stack of the Times fall victim to a new syndrome, SPV (Spontaneous Projectile Vomiting). No small achievement for an object that more and more resembles mere bleached woodpulp covered with indecipherable ink spatters.

JUSTIN GARDNER at the dependably tepid The Moderate Voice voices a faint whisper of distress with Supreme Court nominee Alito: "Increasingly, I'm becoming fairly disheartened with Samuel Alito's record regarding reproductive rights."

This, of course, is just what the people running the relentless ideological pile drive pounding on America's skull hope that he, and others like him, will 'become.'

The hope is that the full-court pile driver press will reverse the position that America took, en masse, during the elections of 2004.

I, on the other hand, am becoming fairly heartened that it won't work. Not this time and not the next.

Bottom line is that Alito is in and, with a few years left to run, the Bush Administration could even get another appointment to the court.

After all, elections decide who gets to pick judges. That's the deal whether it is your most cherished political dream or worst political nightmare.

THE DEMOCRATS ARE ON THE COUCH @ Dr. Sanity: IN DENIAL, and it isn't pretty:

Certainly denial can be used by anyone; and both sides of the political spectrum engage in it-- Democrats or Republicans; Left or Right. But the most recent example, and the one with the most serious implications is the continued denial of reality on the part of Democrats and the Left regarding Iraq.

The examples of their unwillingness to face reality are everywhere. They pretend they didn't vote for military action. They distort what was actually said and even when confronted with audiotapes and transcripts of what was said; they continue to deny that they meant any such thing. When confronted with what Bush or Cheney actually said about the reasons for going to war; they will insistently adhere to an interpretation that fits their template.

Their denial is complete on this issue. It is simply not possible for them to admit that Bush was correct and they were wrong. This is unacceptable knowledge. Bush must be wrong, and America must fail for them to maintain not only their self-esteem, but also their worldview.
