Problem: unless they were packing the right ammo, those guns would also penetrate the plane's hull, and cause explosive decompression at higher altitude.

And he's also got the controls of the plane in his hands. As for whether or not they've loaded the low velocity rounds used in aircraft, any round that will do body armor will do the hull of a plane. Unless you send it through something to slow it down. Like the body of a hijacker.

Somebody didn't pay attention in 6th grade physics. Bullet holes can't cause "explosive decompression". There were a number of technical errors, but that wasn't one of them.
