Well, lo and behold, a court-ordered torture is set to begin in Florida on Friday at 1 P.M.If your answer is "Less than zero," you are correct. It will not produce a scintilla of socially useful information. It will not save a single innocent life. It is not narrowly targeted on a morally culpable person -- the torture-victim is herself as innocent as she is defenseless. It is not, moreover, meant to be brief and non-lethal: The torture will take about two excruciating weeks, and its sole and only purpose is to kill the victim. -- Andrew C. McCarthy on Terri Schiavo
Another question occurs to me in this regard:
If the parent of a child discovers that the spouse of that child is involved in a relentless conspiracy to kill that child, is the parent justified in killing the spouse to save the child?Your mileage may vary but, speaking only for myself, I wouldn't hesitate. I'd send the bastard to hell with a handgun in a heartbeat and be judged by twelve. Posted by Vanderleun at March 17, 2005 10:07 AM | TrackBack
" I'd send the bastard to hell with a handgun in a heartbeat and be judged by twelve. "
Well, I would use a sinper rifle at 800m, but thats just me.
Otherwise, I would have to agree. If I saw my child being killed like that, I would take my chance with the jury. I would bet on a hung jury, or even an acquital.

Posted by: Final Historian at March 17, 2005 01:33 PMDeath by gunshot would be too humane for Michael Shiavo. A slow death, like has elected for his wife, would be the answer. Maybe being pulled behind a pickup at slow speed would be more fitting.
