CBS to First Lady: Prove It

On tonight's episode of Dan Rather in the Middle, career CBS "reporter" John Roberts acknowledged that there might be a bit of a problem with the forged documents by playing a clip of First Lady, Laura Bush saying: "You know, (the documents) probably are altered and they probably are forgeries and I think that's terrible, really."

Roberts immediately followed this sound bite with the statement, "However, Laura Bush offered no evidence to back up her claim."

There you have it. The fruit of days of endless proof from every corner of the media universe that Dan Rather and CBS News bought into a forgery comes down to the failure of the First Lady of the United States to offer evidence to "back up her claim."

I'm not at all sure who exactly Roberts thinks he is or even, at this late date, he can think -- at least for himself. It takes a special kind of toady to live through the last week of life at CBS News and still write "Laura Bush offered no evidence to back up her claim." Factually, it is, of course, a correct statement. What it leaves out is that 1) Laura Bush is not required to present "evidence" when answering another reporter's question, and 2) It is not as if there is a dearth of evidence lying all around the feet of John Roberts, Dan Rather, and CBS news and rapidly rising up to their nostrils.

Evidence, Mr. Roberts? As we used to say in an online conference, 'Yer soakin' in it."

If there was any doubt in anyone's mind about the depths to which Rather and his news organization are willing to sink, this little squib from Roberts should close the deal.

Maybe CBS would have been convinced if the First Lady had written up some quick sloppy forgeries of various blogger screen prints, in crayon on an envelope!

I agree with your comment about Laura Bush, the
first lady of their country who is so above anyone at CBS it is pathetic.
For me, it is so low it can hardly be believed they did it, so low they are buried in my opinion.
Laura Bush is a lady, a lady with more class than
any First Lady since Barbara Bush who may have
outspoken but honest.
Sad day when something like this is actually
said by dishonest journalists.

Roberts is a graduate of the Michael Moore School Of What Passes For Journalism These Days. He recently accused VP Cheney of distorting something JF'nK actually said.

Looks like CBS is still struggling with that bias problem. Pathetic.
