It’s OK to Sing White

And if you see my reflection in the snow-covered hills
Well, the landslide will bring it down
And if you see my reflection in the snow-covered hills
Well, the landslide will bring it down
Oh, the landslide will bring it down

“Everybody will help you
Some people are very kind
But if I can save you any time
Come on, give your privilege to me
I’ll keep it with mine”

In the beauty of the lilies, Christ was born across the sea
With a glory in His bosom that transfigures you and me
As He died to make men holy, let us live to make men free
While God is marching on…

What do these people know about the KKK and when did they know it? How has Trump caused their existence? Hearings!

Great kids, excellent, pure performance and a great Sunday blessing. Thanks GVL!

Oh, and btw, although negroes copy everything that is white they are completely unable to offer anything that could touch this in 10 millenniums.

Apropos of “singing white,” the title of this post reminded me of a song cycle by Gordon Jacob that I learned in high school (back in the Stone Age) titled A Goodly Heritage. One of the songs we learned was a piano setting of Elinor Wylie’s poem “Velvet Shoes.” Found a recording of Jacob’s music on YouTube. Here is the text of Wylie’s poem:

Let us walk in the white snow
    In a soundless space;
    With footsteps quiet and slow,
    At a tranquil pace,
    Under veils of white lace.

I shall go shod in silk,
    And you in wool,
    White as white cow’s milk,
    More beautiful
Than the breast of a gull.

We shall walk through the still town
    In a windless peace;
We shall step upon white down,
    Upon silver fleece,
    Upon softer than these.

We shall walk in velvet shoes:
    Wherever we go
    Silence will fall like dews
    On white silence below.
We shall walk in the snow.

And here is the link to the singers:

Jacob’s musical setting is not a well-known piece, but it’s quiet and calming, and snow is not a bad thing to think of in the middle of a (political as well as atmospheric) heat wave.

I’ve been a fan of this family group for some time now. I play Old Time music and old gospels around my hometown, and recognize talent when I see it. My favorite by the Petersens is an old Chuck Wagon Gang song, “Sweet Beulah Land”:

I just discovered The Petersens a couple of weeks ago via suggestions on YouTube, and I binged on them for like two hours. Their version of Take Me Home, Country Roads is beautiful, understated and sublime: https://www.jbrokaw.com/2020/07/the-petersens-take-me-home-country-roads.html

    Gerard,
Thanks for introducing me to the Petersens. Very clean music. I truly love acoustic music.
Also, thanks for the Fairport Convention/Sandy Denny…memories.

    Joel,
Hearings! Yes and appoint a special counsel. The dems could drag that on for the next four years of Trump. ….but they can’t offer a single thought on how to fix the mess they have made.

Lets not get carried away, Gerard. If it’s OK to sing while white … next thing you know we’ll permit dancing while Irish
