“I will exercise the power and authority as the Sheriff and I’ll make special deputies of every lawful gun owner in this county”

Earlier in the video, Daniels said he and the other deputies will protect peaceful protesters’ Constitutional rights until they become violent, warning them violent protesters will get “everything they want.”

“And we’ll give you everything you want, all the publicity, all the pain, all the glamour and glory for all that five minutes will give you,” Daniels said.

“Is it a threat? Absolutely not,” he added. “But somebody has to step up in front of the camera and say, enough is enough. Tearing up Clay County, that’s not going to be acceptable.” Florida Sheriff Says He Will ‘Deputize’ All ‘Lawful Gun Owners’ If Protesters Get Too Violent |

Yes, well, this should not come as something new and out of the blue.
The sheriff of any given jurisdiction is the highest authority in that jurisdiction. It’s unfortunate that many Americans don’t even understand that fact.

The sheriff has the power to call out the militia and order them to saddle up and assist in fighting any crime issues in their jurisdiction.

The Founders never intended for there to be a SWAT team in every podunk town and village. They never imagined the local constable and his cohorts to have military grade equipment, while the people suffered restrictions on the type weaponry, when and where they may be carried and who may possess them.

The county council can cut the sheriffs nutz off instantly.
    And he knows it.
If the county is small with 5 councilfolks, and 3 are communists, the sheriff’s nutz are mincemeat.

In Florida, the sheriff is a constitutional office (elected). The county council can establish a budget at the beginning if each fiscal year. They cannot exercise operational control at any time.

Can’t help but notice that’s past tense.
We typically have city councils and county supervisors who are mostly legislative. The Mayor in the city and the Sheriff in the county are executors. While mayors can and do muzzle and heel hired-on police chiefs the Sheriff has true legal Constitutional authority.
