Blink Fast: The History of Art in One Minute

And from all of that, it’s come to this:

‘Ketchup on Canvas’ Modern Art Sells For Nearly $50 Million Dollars [This is not satire.]

“Red is the colour of wine, but also of blood, and these canvases encompass both the sensual pleasure and violent debauchery associated with the god. This contrast is echoed in the paintings’ combination of euphoric loops that soar upwards and vermilion floods of paint that ooze and cascade down the canvas.

“The unfurling gestures of these paintings were made, like Henri Matisse’s works in old age, with a brush affixed to the end of a pole, which lends them their vitality and scale.”

I watched the video. I didn’t see any (or much) representation from: the Middle Ages, Renaissance, Classical or Romantic periods. Do you?

    The Twitter comments are woke.

Somewhere in the late 20 seconds (I watch vimeos on you tube where they play better) I saw maybe one cell of Gothic, and possibly a 19th century cell. yes, it’s heavy on Modern and pop, and heavy on ancient and pre-history. Lots of Asian art.
The mistake you might make in criticizing Twombly is in thinking that was all that came out of the era 1945-1975. You may hate the red ketchup one, but the point of the video is open your farking eyes, mate. The Egyptian art was shite, too, but you like it because of context and familiarity.
    Carry on.

What I like is item specific. Groups? Not so much.
That ketchup nonsense? I hope the buyer gets what he deserves.
If that is worth $46mil this morning I dumped a Ft Knox.

Ketchup on Canvas. Son of a bitch; that buyer was well, thoroughly and truly fucked.

What a missed opportunity. That video should have ended with a screen shot of Obama in the hedge. What a statement that would have made.

As my dad used to say, ‘I don’t know much about art but I know shit when I see it.’

Didn’t spot a single Remington in that animated collage. I confess to retrograde taste in art.

When I was in Washington DC (25 years ago) we went to the National Gallery. We were told to go to the East wing, where the modern art was. We encountered a green stripe on a canvas. We left the East wing, and spent the next several hours enjoying the Renaissance and Dutch masters.

At the center of that art barrage was Man: artist, clown, maniac, genius to the gullible.

Is the main pic, in swirling red, a representation of string theory melded into a mustard substrate?
Or is it a yellowish interposition or overlay on a reddish surface?
And if it makes no real difference, why the multi-million dollar deference? And if it does make a difference, real or unreal or both, what is it?

    “….what is it?”
    =========
If you don’t know, you can just ask, and somebody smarter than you will step right up and ‘slain it to ya.

….the Director of the Art Gallery of New South Wales said, “Sometimes people need a little bit of help in recognising a great work of art that might be a bit unfamiliar.”
